Tour Details: Taormina undoubtedly holds a top spot among the most beautiful and tourist-friendly destinations in all of Sicily. The guided tour begins at the stunning Ancient Theater (also known as the Greek Theater), an iconic symbol of Taormina worldwide. Carved into the mountainside, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Ionian Sea, with Mount Etna in the background. In Roman times, it underwent renovations and could accommodate around 20,000 spectators. Today, it is still used for concerts and cultural events.
The tour continues with a visit to the Naumachia (naval battle), a large monumental fountain formed by a wall, over a hundred meters long and five meters high, made of red bricks. Next on the itinerary is the Odeon, a small ancient theater, followed by the Gothic-style Palazzo Corvaia, Taormina’s most famous palace. The journey proceeds near Porta Catania with Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano, also in Gothic style, and the Church of San Giuseppe in Baroque style.
The tour concludes at the Cathedral of Taormina, built around 1400 on the ruins of a small medieval church dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari, possibly with a pre-existing pagan church.
