The guided tour of Vicenza will make you discover one of the most beautiful places in the Veneto and its most illustrious citizen Andrea Palladio, the greatest architect of the Venetian Renaissance who with his beautiful buildings has been an inspiration all over the world such as for examplethe construction of the White House in the United States.
We start from the Olympic Theater which we will visit only externally, the oldest stable covered theater of the modern era designed by Palladio and in the same square we can admire the splendid Palazzo Chiericati, also a work by Palladio, dating back to the 16th century;
the elegant building, raised and preceded by the central staircase due to the continuous flooding of the time, is embellished with large loggias on the main floor level and today houses the Civic Museum with works of great artistic value.
We continue along Corso Palladio street, the main street that crosses Vicenza and which introduces us to its historic center, a street full of important historic buildings designed by Palladio, churches, medieval towers, various types of shops and the inevitable cafés where you can try the famous
spritz long drinks and taverns with typical menus of the Venetian tradition.
The tour continues reaching Piazza dei Signori square, the “living room” of Vicenza and center of commercial and social power which houses the most characteristic buildings such as the Basilica, the Bissara Tower, the Palazzo del Monte di Pietà, the Church of S. Vincenzo
and the Palazzo del Capitaniato starting from the two columns dedicated to the Serenissima of Venice, one with the Lion of San Marco and the other with Christ the Redeemer.
The most famous building dominates the square, the Palladian Basilica which is not a true religious basilica but was defined as such by Palladio in homage to Roman antiquity as the building housed the municipal councils and was built on the ancient Palazzo della Ragione.
Let’s explore the Basilica externally where a marble staircase leads to the loggia and the copper green covering makes it one of the symbols of the city. Next to it we will visit the Bissara Tower which with its 82 meters of height is visible in every part of Vicenza and always in the elegant square we find another building designed by Palladio, the Palazzo del Capitaniato, from the Renaissance period decorated with columns, statues and decorations, today the seat of the City Council.
