The guided tour of Rome will take you to the heart of world Christianity and to admire the Italian beauties of inestimable value. The tour starts from one of the most beautiful and ancient bridges in Rome, Ponte Sant ‘Angelo, built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in 136 to connect the city to the entrance to his mausoleum: Castel S. Angelo castle. The bridge over the Tiber river with ten statues of angels designed by Bernini, offers a postcard view and makes the majestic circular castle that changes its function over the years. From a funerary monument of the Roman Emperor it becomes a fortified castle with its walls, to become a splendid Renaissance residence with frescoed rooms and now a museum with panoramic terraces and the statue of an angel standing on its top. From here we walk along the great Via della Conciliazione that connects Castel Sant ‘Angelo castle to Piazza San Pietro square where we find ourselves surrounded by a beautiful double colonnade by Bernini with an Egyptian obelisk in the center and a splendid fountain to embellish the large square that is part of the Vatican State. From here, the faithful attend the Angelus and the Pope’s Blessing every Sunday morning that looks out from the window of his apartment, marked with a red cloth.
The tour continues with a guided tour of St. Peter’s Basilica (external visit), the largest church in the world and the heart of Christianity. You will be amazed admiring its greatness! The tour ends by walking through the majestic church and discovering the numerous masterpieces that have made it famous over the centuries, such as the statues by Bernini.
