The guided tour of Rimini will make you discover the ancient heart of the town with all its hidden beauties. We start from the monumental entrance gate to the historic center, the Arch of Augustus built in 27 BC. in honor of the Emperor, which is the oldest Roman arch preserved in northern Italy.
From here we walk along the main street until we reach Piazza Tre Martiri square, the ancient Roman forum, the political and commercial center of Rimini where we can admire the statue of the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, the small temple dedicated to Sant’ Antonio da Padova and the characteristic Clock tower which not only marks the time but also the zodiacal movements and the lunar phases. A few steps away we will visit the city’s Cathedral, known as the Malatesta Temple, testimony to the Lords of Rimini in the 15th century; inside we can admire Giotto’s beautiful Crucifix painted on wood in the 14th century and a valuable fresco by Piero della Francesca.
Walking through the streets of the center we notice that the medieval style mixes harmoniously with the decorations of the Renaissance style and we will go to Piazza Cavour, embellished by the Pigna Fountain. Overlooking the square are the Gothic Palazzo del Podestà from the 1300s, the Palazzo dell’ Arengo from the medieval era where the people’s council met, the Galli Theater in neoclassical style and the evocative ancient eighteenth-century fish market where under the arches and on the marble benches fish was sold. From this corner of Rimini we move towards another building which houses the Cinema Fulgor which we will visit externally, today a museum dedicated to the famous director Fellini (his film La Dolce Vita).
We end the guided tour by reaching the magnificent Tiberius Bridge which has fascinated visitors for over 2000 years with its five Doric style arches, one of the most notable surviving Roman bridges which overlooks the Canal Port of Rimini and can be better observed from a new square on the water.
