The guided tour of Pienza will take you to discover a small jewel of Tuscany, often used as a natural set for prestigious Italian and international films and series. Crossing one of the oldest entrance doors to the village we immerse ourselves in the picturesque alleys with craft shops and food and wine shops. Pienza, in fact, rises a few kilometers from Montalcino and Montepulciano, famous for their fine wines, and is famous for typical products such as pecorino, Chianina meat and pici pasta.
Pienza enjoys a truly strategic position, it is located on the top of a hill and, along the panoramic road, you will be enchanted by the breathtaking view over the entire Val d’Orcia and the Tuscan hills.
The tour starts from the town center with its most beautiful square, Piazza Pio II square with the Duomo church, Palazzo Piccolomini and the Bishop’s Palace as well as an elegant well also known as Pozzo dei Cani. We visit the Cathedral of Assunta with important paintings by the most renowned artists inside, a Renaissance masterpiece with a beautiful octagonal bell tower next to it that rises above the ancient crypt pointing straight to the sky. On the right of the Cathedral we proceed with the visit discovering Palazzo Piccolomini, the summer residence of Enea Silvio Piccolomini (Pope Pius II), who in 1459 had one of the most beautiful Renaissance architectural jewels built. A fantastic Loggia with a wonderful garden from which you can admire a truly unique panorama, an ideal setting to be used often as a film set. The tour ends by walking along other streets of the village and admiring the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Borgia and ancient convents.
