The guided tour of Grazzano Visconti, near Piacenza, allows the visitor to immerse themselves in a timeless atmosphere. A medieval door is the entrance to the village recognized as a “city of art” by the Emilia-Romagna region and designed by Duke Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone together with his architect Campanini in the early 1900s. The Duke’s dream was that the inhabitants of the village would have all the comforts and advantages of the modern era and at the same time be able to study and work there to express their creativity through the arts and crafts, as was the case in the medieval period.
The tour will then take you through the streets of the village admiring the houses with frescoed facades, the arcades, the statues and the Cortevecchia where you can visit the particular museum of agricultural tools of the time, housed under the portico of the court. During the visit, we will discover the Parish Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano which is the oldest building in the country rebuilt in the 17th century and known for the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes inside, with numerous ex-votos.
A postcard view is offered by the Piazza del Biscione in the center, where the Palazzo dell’Istituzione, the Albergo del Biscione and the Pozzo are located, surrounded by many restaurants in medieval style. The village is surrounded by numerous local craft shops, known above all for their woodworking and wrought iron and souvenirs …… fans of the Harry Potter saga will not be able to miss this place! The tour ends with the external visit of the castle, the village in fact develops in a horseshoe around it, completely renovated and furnished by the Visconti and the castle park which extends for 15 hectares with many statues, including that of Aloisa, protector of unrequited lovers and the legend about her ghost wandering between the castle and the park …
