The guided tour of Genoa starts from Porta Soprana, the only remaining entrance door to the historic center, built in stone and of medieval origin adjacent to the remains of the ancient walls and the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, the famous explorer who discovered the America, which now houses its museum. From here we arrive in the main square Piazza de Ferrari, made unique by the monumental bronze fountain that offers magnificent plays of water and lights and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in the city such as the Palazzo Ducale, the Palazzo della Regione and the Carlo Felice Theater. We enter the heart of the historic center in a labyrinth of alleys that lead us to the discovery of the Palazzi dei Rolli, beautiful residences of the Genoese nobility today a World Heritage Site. These sumptuous buildings divided into categories based on the importance of the guests are concentrated above all in Via Garibaldi, one of the most beautiful and important streets in Genoa, which is overlooked by prestigious museums that house precious works of art.
The tour continues towards the Cathedral, first pausing to admire a plaque commemorating the building where Goffredo Mameli was born, who became famous for having composed the Italian National Anthem, also known as the Mameli Anthem. The Duomo or Cathedral of San Lorenzo is the most important church in Genoa, with its Gothic-style facade in black and white marble and with two large lions in front of the entrance that capture the gaze of visitors. Inside, in addition to the beautiful paintings and sculptures, you will see an unexploded bomb that during the Second World War was dropped by the English fleet during the bombing and broke through the roof of the church.
From the historic center we move to the sea to admire the Porto Antico completely redesigned by the famous architect Renzo Piano, a tourist center that contains the major attractions of Genoa that will be visited from the outside such as the Aquarium which is one of the largest in Europe. the Biosphere (a steel and glass bubble on the water with tropical vegetation inside), the Bigo (a metal structure in the shape of a crane with a panoramic lift) and La città dei bambini (the largest recreational museum for children). We end the guided tour by admiring the Vessel Neptune or the reconstruction of an ancient Spanish galleon from the 17th century used as a set for the Peter Pan series.
