The guided tour of Amalfi will take you to discover one of the most enchanting places on the Amalfi coast, a picturesque town that in its labyrinth of alleys holds treasures of art where time seems to have stopped. Crossing the Porta della Marina we immerse ourselves in the historic center where we can immediately admire the imposing staircase of the Cathedral dedicated to Sant ‘Andrea. In Arab-Norman style with Byzantine and Baroque details, its facade has the colors of a mosaic representing Christ in the midst of the evangelists.
The Romanesque bell tower covered with majolica and the bronze door of the Cathedral are also precious, coming from Constantinople. Inside you will discover the magnificent crypt that houses the remains of the Saint, adorned with valuable frescoes and bronze and marble statues. Adjacent to the Cathedral we continue our journey with the visit of the Cloister of Paradise which was the ancient cemetery of the nobles of Amalfi and today we can admire its unique architectural style with intertwined arches, oriental style columns, marble mosaic decorations and in the center of the cloister a wonderful garden with palm trees in which beauty and silence echo so much that it seems to be in paradise.
After the visit to the Cloister, we will walk through the alleys of the historic center, among flowers and the scent of lemons coming from the gardens of the elegant villas on the sea and ancient shops of typical products. Panoramic postcard views can be discovered by climbing the stone steps of the village and continuing our path we will meet the picturesque fountain called “Cap e Ciuccio” where inside there is a Neapolitan nativity scene submerged by water where you can throw a coin and express a wish. We end the guided tour by returning to the waterfront where you can admire the Arsenale, or the shipyard of the ancient Maritime Republic where ships were built and repaired: now there is the Museum of the Compass and the Maritime Duchy. On the promenade you can easily stroll among restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops with the wonderful view of the beaches with crystal clear water that make the Amalfi coast one of the most popular destinations in the summer.
