The guided tour of Rome will focus on some of the most beautiful monuments in the heart of the city, wonders full of history and timeless beauty. It starts from one of the most beautiful squares, Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo, overlooked by the imposing buildings such as the Municipality of Rome and the beautiful Capitoline Museums. In the center of the square you can admire the bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius and a few steps away we immerse ourselves in the splendor of one of the largest and most beautiful churches in Rome, the Church of Santa Maria dell ‘Ara Coeli. In Roman Gothic style and with baroque decorations, it offers the visitor a unique spectacle and is famous for the “Holy Child”, a precious very old wooden sculpture of the infant Jesus covered with precious votive offerings endowed with miraculous powers.
Going down its elegant staircase, we come to one of the most important monuments of the eternal city, the Vittoriano also known as the Altare della Patria. The monument of great symbolic value is dedicated to free and united Italy and houses the tomb of the Unknown Soldier as an example of the sacrifice for Italy. Walking through the historic streets covered with cobblestones, we find ourselves in front of another striking monument such as the Pantheon which was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a temple dedicated to all the divinities. Circular in shape with a columned portico, it is known for its dome with a circular opening in the center that allows light to enter. Visiting the inside we are surrounded by the beauty of the decorations and marble statues that frame the famous tomb of the painter Raffaello Sanzio and the first two kings of Italy. Our tour continues with a moment of relaxation with a coffee tasting at “Caffè Sant ‘Eustachio”, one of the historic cafes in Rome opened in the 1930s that preserves the original furnishings and mosaic flooring. Here we will have a tasting of the famous coffee, one of the best in the city.
The tour continues with a visit to the church of San Luigi dei Francesi with Caravaggio’s paintings: in the beautiful Contarelli Chapel you can admire three of his absolute masterpieces where the contrast of light and shadow makes the works immortal. A few steps away we admire Palazzo Madama, seat of the Italian Senate and we head towards Piazza Navona square, the monumental oval square that stands on the ruins of the Roman Domitian stadium. A precious obelisk in the center of the square enriches the splendid Fountain of the Four Rivers designed by Bernini, the marble that embraces the water creates a harmony that makes it unique. The guided tour ends with another famous square in the heart of the capital, the picturesque Piazza Campo de ‘Fiori which houses a curious colorful market that seems to be the set of a film.
